GCSC Announces a Change in Commissioners

Sigrid Kaag to step down as GCSC Commissioner to take on new position as Minister; Chris Painter to join the initiative.

Sigrid Kaag, who was appointed United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon in December 2014 and headed the disarmament mission to dismantle Syria’s chemical weapons programme, has assumed her new position as Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands. In this context, Ms. Kaag had to step down as a GCSC Commissioner. The Commission thanks Ms. Kaag for her efforts and wishes her all the best with her future endeavors as Minister.

The GCSC also announced that Chris Painter, former Coordinator for Cyber Issues at the U.S. State Department, has joined the initiative as a GCSC Commissioner. Mr. Painter has been on the vanguard of U.S. and international cyber issues for over twenty five years—first as a prosecutor of some of the most high-profile cybercrime cases and then as a senior official at the Department of Justice, FBI, the White House National Security Council and finally the State Department. He has initiated, helped drive, or advised on virtually every major U.S. cyber policy decision of the last decade and has created innovative new organizations and approaches to deal with threats and take advantage of opportunities in cyberspace.
